William Michael 'Mike / Smitty' Smith

William Michael “Mike or Smitty” Smith, 61, of Albany, passed away Saturday, June 15, 2013 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Acree, 4405 Sylvester RD, Albany, GA 31705, with Reverend Robin Chaplin officiating. Mr. Smith was born January 4, 1952 to the late Herbert and Alma Gaines Smith in Charleston, S.C. “Mike” was a former member of the Lions Club and Moose Club. He loved to fish and hunt and had a special touch with training his dogs that he loved so much. Mike also was a little league coach for a while. He worked in the automobile industry as a “top-notch” salesman for some of the best car dealers in the Albany area. Mike also worked many years in the construction industry with several large construction firms, building and expanding area plants such as Merck Chemicals and Proctor and Gamble before he had to leave the industry due to health problems. Mr. Smith is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Trisha and Tim Fus of Leesburg, FL; his son and daughter-in-law Trad and Erin Smith of Leesburg, GA; his sisters and brother-in-laws, Sally S. and Michael Pierce of Huntsville, AL, Margret S. and Franklin Spilman of Dawson, GA, Cindy S. and Gary Barfield of Leesburg, GA; his special friend Connie Pegg; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Along with his parents Mike is preceded in death by his sister, Patricia S. Monday. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 prior to the service.
