Ashton “Chase” VanMatre, 22, of Worth County, passed away on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, after injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at Hall and Hall Funeral Home. A celebration of life service will be held at the graveside at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson with family and friends sharing their favorite memories of Chase. To honor his memory, the family requests everyone in attendance wear casual clothing like Chase would want. Chase was born March 21, 1999, in Albany, to Randy and Kim Lewis VanMatre. He was raised in Worth County and was a 2017 graduate of Worth County High School where he played football for the Rams. He was currently employed as an installer at G & M Fence Company of Tifton and was affectionately known as “Fence Post” by his buddies and Straw. To know Chase was to love him. He was known as hell on wheels who liked to ride fast or die last. Hey, “it is what it is,” he was a true bull in a China shop. Chase was one of a kind, with the biggest heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. As one of his last selfless acts on earth, Chase was able to share the gift of life through organ donation. He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents and family friends. Along with his parents, survivors include his brother, Hunter VanMatre and Bradlee Thomas VanMatre; niece, Lyla Grace VanMatre; sister, Harleigh Purvis and Tyler Purvis all of Worth County; maternal grandparents, Jack and Billie Lewis of Putney; paternal grandparents, Dennis and Joyce VanMatre of Albany; girlfriend Carrie West and her children Sawyer and Beckett; Rams mentor, Steven Danford and Mojo; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family and friends. The family respectfully requests donations be made to the funeral home to help cover the costs of funeral expenses. Hall and Hall Funeral Home was given the honor to serve the VanMatre family.
