Charles Franklin Smith, Iii.

Mr. Charles Franklin Smith, III, 86, of Baconton, passed away on Monday, November 7, 2022, at his home with his daughters by his side.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 10, 2022, at The Crown Hill Mausoleum Chapel with visitation thirty minutes prior to the funeral.

Born November 15, 1935, in Massachusetts, Mr. Smith was the son of the late Charles F. Smith, Jr. and Mary Fredette Smith. He faithfully served in The Marine Corps for over 26 years and served in The Vietnam Era. He retired in 1981 from the Marines and then worked for several years in civil service at The Marine Corps Logistics Base of Albany retiring in 1997. He was a talented wood craftsman, enjoyed being the family historian, and was very active in keeping up with family genealogy.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Poe Smith.

Survivors include his daughters, Vicki Smith Hammons (Rich) of Tybee Island, GA, and Melissa Salyer of Albany; his brother, David Smith of LaGrange; several nieces and nephews.
