Chester Louie Humphries

Louie Chester Humphries, 85, of Albany, GA formerly of Gadsden, AL went home to be with his Lord on Friday, March 25, 2011. Funeral services honoring his life will be held at Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL on Monday, March 28 at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Bob Thornton will officiate with the interment at Crestwood Cemetery. Mr. Humphries was born on January 11, 1926 in Jefferson County, AL to the late Louie C. Humphries and Ethel Hitt. Mr. Humphries was a graduate of Stamford University, and served his country during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He retired from Republic Steel after 35 years of service as a steel worker and completing his service Superintendent Hot Strip Mill. He served as Deacon of Edgewood Baptist Church. Chester and Helen enjoyed a number of years golfing with Southeastern Seniors Golf Association. In addition to his parents, Mr. Humphries was preceded in death by his first wife, Emily Jo Wain; his brother Robert Humphries; sisters, Mildred Bradford Williams and Virginia Watts; and his step grandson T.J. Adams. Survivors include his wife Helen Shaw Humphries; his son Wayne Humphries and his wife Patricia of Rainbow City, AL; his daughter Linda Humphries Smith and her husband Doug of Homestead, FL; step-son Ronnie House of Albany; step-daughter Joey Adams of Albany; grandchildren, Doug Smith wife Marla, Dan Smith, Chris Humphries wife Torie, Carey Humphries and wife Jane; step-grandchildren, Laney Adams and wife Kristen, Dan Adams and wife Susie, Kacy Gatlin, and Jason House and wife Nora; brothers, Bill Humphries and Tommy Humphries and wife Rosemond all of Rainbow City, AL; sisters, Sue Booker of Gadsden, AL, Betty Thomas and husband Walton of Rainbow City, AL; and two special sisters in law, Martha Kane and Joyce Gilbreath. The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 26 from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hall and Hall Funeral Home and also on Sunday, March 27 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Crestwood Funeral Home in Gadsden, AL. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to Willson Hospice House, 320 Foundation Lane, Albany, GA 31707. You may express your condolences at www.hallandhallfuneralhome.com.
