Donald Joseph 'Don' Friebohle

June 8, 1929 — December 5, 2014

Mr. Donald Joseph (Don) Friebohle, age 85, of Albany, passed away Friday, December 05, 2014 at Wynfield Park Rehabilitation. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m., Tuesday, December 9, 2014 at the graveside of Floral Memory Gardens with full military honors. Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law, Glendon and Erine Friebohle of San Diego, CA; sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Dean Baumann of Des Moines, IA; special friends that he considered his local family, Richard and Ann Dobbins, Mike Sistrunk and family and Eugene Duckworth; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his two brothers, Gene and Lawrence Friebohle; two sisters, May Friebohle and Laurene Friebohle Braker. Born June 8, 1929 in Humboldt, Minnesota, Mr. Friebohle was the son of the late Emil and Lydia Hawkins Friebohle. Don was drafted into the United States Marine Corps on October of 1951. He spent twenty-one years of active duty in the Marine Corps. He was in the Korean Conflict and served two tours in the Vietnam Era. During the twenty-one years, he came to love the Marine Corps. He was a true “GI JOE” if ever there was one. His family was the Marine Corps and he loved them. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Don went to work for the City of Albany and retired with seventeen years of service. He ran heavy equipment and loved it. He worked with Mike Sistrunk and Eugene Duckworth which were some of his best friends. Don truly loved Mike and his family. He especially enjoyed the times Mike would visit him at Wynfield Park. There was a sparkle of joy in his eyes when he would tell about his friend, Mike. The very last day of his life, Mike brought a joy to him that no one else could have by bringing a special visitor early that morning to see Don. He brought Don’s Marine family to visit. What a wonderful blessing! Don loved his trucks and four-wheelers. He would dress his trucks like royalty with headers, chrome roll bars, side rails and step rails, all chrome. The one thing he “Always” put on a truck was the Chrome Mack Bulldog and he had to have a chrome toolbox to mount the bulldog on. He traded often about every two years sometimes sooner. Just when he told you his truck was the last one he would have, the next week he would buy a new truck all decked out. If a bigger four-wheeler came out Don just had to have it. Don would give you the shirt off his back if you asked for it and he liked you. Don’s heart was a big as Texas. This man who served in country valiantly will surely be missed by all who knew him. Rest in Peace, our friend! Thank you for your service, and your friendship! OORAH! SEMPER FI! The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m., Monday evening.
