Mr. Elmo Taylor Israel, 94, of Albany, peacefully passed away on June 17, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 in the chapel of Hall and Hall Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Following the funeral service, he will be laid to rest in Snowridge Cemetery in Ashburn at 3:00 p.m. Mr. Israel was born on April 11, 1925, in Ashburn, GA to the late Emmett and Minnie Israel. He proudly served our country in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and continued to serve as an active member of Hasan Shrine Temple. During his time as a Shriner, he enjoyed playing in the spasm band and clown unit for over 50 years. Mr. Israel was also a 50 year member of the American Legion in Cairo where he served as commander for 19 of those years and was named veteran of the year in 2018. He and his wife are members of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Mitchell County. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife, Ruby Lee Israel of Albany; children, Patricia Ann Owens and Steve Owens (Sandy) of Albany; grandchildren, Michael Bryant of Atlanta and Cyndi Ragsdale of Leesburg; and two great-grandchildren, Andrew Ragsdale, and Ashley Ragsdale; and a host of nieces and nephews.
