Ira Gene Whitmire

Mr. Ira Gene Whitmire, 81, of Albany, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 15, 2018 at Morningside United Methodist Church. Mr. Whitmire will be laid to rest at Andersonville National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. with military honors. Rev. Anna Miller will officiate. Born December 22, 1936 in Sturgis, MS, Mr. Whitmire was the son of the late James Ira and Irene Scott Whitmire. He served in the Vietnam Era and retired from the Navy. He also retired from the Marine Corps Logistics Base as an inspector. Mr. Whitmire was a faithful member of Morningside United Methodist Church for many years where he served as an usher and was involved with many other ministries of the church. He will be greatly missed by his family and church family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Whitmire was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Kathryn Booth Whitmire and his son, Mike Whitmire. Survivors include his son, Anthony Scott Whitmire of Albany; 6 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren and his caregivers, Tammy Lee and Fran Tabb. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:30 a.m. before the funeral at the church. Hall and Hall Funeral Home has been given the honor to serve the Whitmire family.
