Mr. Jack Henry Torrence, 77, of Albany, passed away Friday, September 11, 2009 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Torrence will be conducted Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Hall and Hall Funeral Home. Dr. Charlie Rouse will officiate with interment to follow at 2:00 p.m. at Andersonville National Cemetery in Andersonville. Logan Torrence, Brandon Torrence, Joseph M. Castongia, Charles Hartzo III, Josh King and Robbie Surface will serve as active pallbearers at the funeral home. Full Military Honors will be presented at the cemetery. Jack Henry Torrence was born March 7, 1932 in Johnson City, New York to the late Harrison James Torrence and Violet Irene Ilgenfritz. He served his country in the Marines for thirty years in which he served during the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era. He received many Medals and Awards during his time in service. Mr. Torrence retired after twenty years of service from the Marine Logistic Base, was a member of the VFW, an Eagle Scout and was of the Baptist faith. In his younger days he enjoyed boxing with the Marine Corps Boxing team and continued to go to the boxing events for years later. Jack was very much a family man who loved his entire family dearly. He will truly be miss by all who knew him. Survivors include his loving wife of fifty-seven years, Dorothy Mae Warner Torrence of Albany; son and daughter-in-law, Logan Jon Torrence and his wife, Pamela of Leesburg; daughter and son-in-law, Paula Castongia and her husband, Joseph M. of Dothan, AL.; grandchildren, Brandon (Stacie) Torrence, Andrea Torrence, Patricia (Robbie) Surface, Charles Hartzo III, Tiffany (Josh) King, Emily Castongia and Anne-Marie Castongia; great-grandchildren, Nathan Surface, Mackenzie Torrence, Caiden King, Kason King and Ansleigh Torrence.
