John George Smith, Jr., 84, of Albany passed away Monday, September 21, 2009 at Palmyra Medical Center. Funeral services honoring the life of Mr. Smith will be conducted (TODAY) Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the mausoleum chapel of Crown Hill Cemetery. His son, Dr. John George Smith III will officiate with entombment to follow in the mausoleum. Full military honors will be presented. John George Smith, Jr., was born January 18, 1925 in Pittsburgh, P.A. to the late John George Smith and Jessie Stewart. He was a veteran in the Army from 1943 until 1946 and the Marine Corps from 1948 until 1968. He was a member of Sunnyside Baptist Church and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. In addition to his parents his wife who passed away on February 23, 2008, Mrs. Grace Margaret Smith, son, Gerald R. Goodwin and brother, Rex L. Smith, preceded Mr. Smith in death. Survivors include sons, Dr. John George Smith III of Cordele and Gary L. Smith of Albany; daughters, Margaret Webb of Albany, Robin Massey of Leesburg and Jennifer Stone of Loganville; sister, Sue Roach of Pittsburgh, P.A.;nbsp;11 grandchildren andnbsp;6 great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers the family request that contributions be made to the Alzheimerrsquo;s Association in memory of Mrs. Grace Smith, 1512 Gillionville Rd. Albany Georgia 31707.
