Laura Ruth (Olive) Newell

Mrs. Laura Ruth Newell, 88, of Albany, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2015 at her home. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 12, 2015 in the chapel of Hall Hall Funeral Home. Chaplain Tim Olds will officiate with interment to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Albany. Mrs. Newell was a native of Cottonwood, Alabama where she lived and was loved by the wonderful Edward S. Jones family who took her in when she was two weeks old. She moved to Albany, Georgia where she met and married Willie Gordon Newell. She was his loving wife for 57 years and devoted mother of their five children. She was a member of Raleigh White Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. G. Newell and her grandson, Jay Powell, her birth parents, Hezzie and Laura Olive; her beloved parents, Edward and Mandy Jones; her sister, Alma (Alvin Hodges; brothers, Addis (Hilda) Olive; Leon Olive, Morgan (Myrtle) Jones, Millard (Eunice) Jones, Roy (Gracie) Jones, Elton (Jane) Jones, Elmer (Johnnie) Jones, Eddie (Eudine) Jones; sisters, Thelma (Ray) Snell and Eula Mae (N.L.) Sellers. She was survived by her five children, Ann (Allen Case of Elizabethtown, KY, Phyllis (Harold) Golden of Canton, Beth (Dan) Hedrick of Columbiana, Gordon Newell of Albany, Pam (David) Cornaire of Rincon; seven grandchildren, Stacy Walkup, Quinn Hedrick, Lara Powell, Allison Case, Amanda Yates, Michael Cornaire, and Mandy Grubbs and 8 great-grandchildren, Grant Hedrick , Carson Yates, Caroline Yates, Chase Yates, Kelby Cornaire, Caleb Cornaire and Michael Elizabeth Grubbs. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at Hall Hall Funeral Home.
