Mrs. Marilyn Sharman Pitts Hughey of Atlanta passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. Graveside Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Floral Memory Gardens, 120 Old Pretoria Road Albany, GA. Reverend Dan Story will officiate. Born August 7, 1953 in Albany, Marilyn attended Deerfield-Windsor School and graduated in 1971. After high school, Marilyn attended Auburn University, 1971-1973; University of Alabama of Birmingham, 1973-1974; Medical College of GA, 1974-1976 earning a degree in Physical Therapy; and Emory Medical School in Atlanta, 1990-1992 earning degree as Physicians Assistant. Marilyn’s employment includes; Crawford W. Long/ Emory Medical School in Atlanta as a Physicians Assistant, 1976-1990; Dr. Joe Turner in Tifton, GA, 1992-1994; and Emory Medical Hospital, 1994-2011. Marilyn enjoyed Ballroom Dancing, and she last competed in the Bronze Division. Mrs. Hughey was of the Presbyterian Faith. Survivors include her mother, Mrs. Carolyn Thomason Sharman of Albany; her brother, Robert Thomason Sharman of Albany; her sister-in-law Sue Sharman of Savannah; her niece, Mischelle Sharman and husband Zack Townsend of Leesburg; her nephew, Jepp Harold Sharman III of Atlanta; her great nieces, Sabrina Sharman and Sarah Townsend both of Leesburg; her great nephew, Zachery Townsend of Leesburg; her aunt Sally Sharman of Albany; her uncle O.B. Thomason of Nashville,TN; and numerous cousins. She is preceded in death by her father Dr. J. Harold Sharman Sr.; her brother Jepp H. Sharman Jr.; sister-in-law Esther Wilson Sharman; uncles Dr. E.C. “Buck” Sharman and Dr. Robert S. Sharman all of Albany, and a nephew Michael Sharman of LA; her grandparents Mr. Mrs. E.B. Sharman of LaGrange and Mr. Mrs. O.B. Thomason of Columbus. The family will receive friends from 11a.m. until 12 p.m. Saturday before the service at Floral Memory Gardens. The family will be gathering at the home of her mother, Carolyn Thomason Sharman, 1021 Cordele Road Albany, GA 31705. In lieu of floral arrangements memorial donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of GA, the St. Jude Hospital, or the Lights of Love at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital of Albany, GA.
