Mary Elizabeth ''Libby'' Womack

July 31, 1944 — July 22, 2012

Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Womack of Albany passed away at her home on July 22, 2012, following an extended struggle with cancer. Libby was born to Jack and Catherine Dean on July 31, 1944. She graduated from Albany High School in 1961 and received a bachelor’s degree from The University of Georgia and a master’s degree with honors from Emory University. Her professional career included teaching advanced mathematics in secondary education and college. Libby retired from Delta Air Lines Information Technology following which she and her husband, Jim, returned to Albany where they own and operate Tri State Florist Supply. Until the time of her death she was active in service and educational organizations including board memberships in the Albany Museum of Art, Chehaw Council of Boy Scouts of America, Women in Network (WIN), Albany Humane Society, Dougherty County Kiwanis Club and the University of Georgia Heritage Society. She is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Albany. Libby is survived by her husband Jim Womack of Albany; sister, Catherine Dean Hicks and husband, Burry of Jamestown, North Carolina; nephew, William Hicks and wife, Sheila of Atlanta; niece, Sandra Austin and husband, Jerry of Atlanta; three great nephews; a great niece; her two precious cocker spaniels, Caroline and Dandy Beau and a host of wonderful friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 25, 2012 at First United Methodist Church of Albany. Interment will follow in the Crown Hill Cemetery with Reverend Carrie Myers officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday in the church Fellowship Hall. Flowers will be accepted and those desiring may make contributions to the Humane Society, PO BOX 3151 Albany, GA. 31706 or The Chehaw Council Boy Scouts of America, PO BOX 469 Albany, GA. 31702.
