Mary Inez (Pitts) Jones

December 9, 1937 — March 6, 2015

Mrs. Mary Inez Jones, 77, of Manchester, went home to be with Jesus on Friday, March 6, 2015. Her race was run and the crown has been given. She fought a good fight, kept the faith and finished her beautiful life. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2015 in the chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Manchester. Her son-in-law, Dr. Henry Rutledge and grandson, Rev. Joseph W. Jones will officiate with interment to follow at Meriwether Memory Gardens. Born December 9, 1937 in Meriwether County, Mrs. Jones was the daughter of the late Thurman and Susie Bairentine Pitts. As a child she lived in Jekyll Island while her father served as a prison guard. She made many wonderful memories while living there that she often spoke of. In her younger years, she worked at Warm Springs Foundation where she cared for children with polio. She loved to feed them and help with the placement of braces on their legs. Mrs. Jones worked for Nabisco where she was proud that they often sent their products to the military. She had lived for a while in Albany and then later moved back to Manchester to care for her beloved mother that she loved deeply. She then worked for over eighteen years at Goody Products in Manchester where she retired. She served most of her life as a care giver for family and friends until she was no longer able. Cooking meals for her family was her delight and she had a large collection of cookbooks that she enjoyed. Mrs. Jones enjoyed working in her yard and loved working with her plants and flowers. For as long as she was able her yard always blossomed with beautiful flowers. God's word and living a life of Holiness was the most important thing to her. She had firm convictions and moral standards to encourage others to draw closer to Jesus. In the past several years she had received many miracles from God that she was proud to share with everyone. She was always talking about the faithfulness of Jesus and all that he has done. For the past several years, she was unable to be in Gods house where she so longed to be, but she never let go of her faith. She supported many ministers and gave to them generously with a grateful heart. She always had the sweetest smile and she was a true lady that loved her family deeply. She spent much time through the years praying to draw closer to God and for the needs of her loved ones. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend that will never be forgotten. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jones was preceded in death by her brother, Roy Pitts and by her former husband that was her first love, George Franklin Jones who passed away on January 16, 2015. Survivors include her daughters and a son-in-law, Debbie Sue Jones of Manchester, Vickie and Dr. Henry Rutledge of Los Angeles, CA and Nancy Eliane Jones of Sylvester; her sister Sandra and Kenneth Jenkins of Lithonia; brother, Ronnie Bubba Pitts of Texas; grandchildren, Victoria and J.D., Henry Bubba and Ashley, Lael and Meagan, Joseph and Christina, Justin, Cynthia and Kenyon, Christina and Wayne and Julie and six great-grandchildren.
