Mr. Roy Mack Young Sr., 92, of Albany, peacefully passed away into the arms of Jesus on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at his home. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, May 15, 2022, at Sunnyside Baptist Church. Rev. Terry Siniard will officiate with interment to follow in the Smithville Cemetery. The family will visit with friends one hour before the funeral at the church. Born May 9, 1930, in Smithville, Mr. Young was the son of the late Simmie Lee and Mary Deriso Young. He proudly served our country in the United States Air Force where he retired as an aircraft mechanic. A skilled pilot, he enjoyed teaching others how to fly, loved flying his own plane up until his 80’s, and was a longtime member of the Civil Air Patrol. He also enjoyed working in his yard and hiking and was able to hike much of the Appalachian Trail with his daughter. Mr. Young was a faithful member of Sunnyside Baptist church where he formerly served as the superintendent of Sunday School and in Awana’s for many years. A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather he will be greatly missed all. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mattie Mae Young; and siblings, Richard Young, Henry Young, Rachel Baker, and Joyce Davis. Survivors include his children, Betty Lee Morton and David of Pilot Point, TX, Carolyn Kay Wilson and Chip of Leesburg, and Roy M. Young, Jr. and Melissa of Madison, AL; 8 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Nancy Greene of Albany, and Sara Robinson of Louisiana.
