Mrs. Susan Freeland, 70, of Albany, peacefully passed away at her home on April 27, 2019. Mrs. Freeland was born Martha Susan Freeland on October 1, 1948 in Tifton, GA to the late James Alford Vowell and Zelma Carmichael Vowell Doll. She was known throughout her life as Susan. She worked as an ER nurse for over 20 years at Tift Regional Medical Center, formerly known as Tift General Hospital. She took great pride in her service as a nurse and participated in numerous advances in emergency care in Tift County including the training of some of the first paramedics there. Her devotion to nursing was exceeded only by her devotion to family, especially her son Jeff. Her love of animals is well known and she leaves behind many spoiled cats. Though her family numbers are now few, her memory lives in the minds of many. Her ashes will rest at several sites special to her over her lifetime. Survivors include her husband, Dr. Fred Freeland; son, Jeff Weaver (Sheila); brother, Gary Vowell (Beth); granddaughter, India; and great granddaughter, Lenora. In lieu of flowers, please make donations at morrisanimalfoundation.org. Hall and Hall Funeral Home of Albany was given the honor to serve the Freeland Family.
