Vernon Simmons

Vernon Simmons, 89, of Albany, died Friday, February 5, 2016 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at Cobb Funeral Chapel with Dr. David Benton officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery with military honors. Born October 3, 1926 in Palatka, FL. he was the son of the late Pearl Whidby Simmons and Rayel Simmons. He was retired from the US Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant for twenty three years and also worked with the Dougherty County Board of Education in the maintenance department. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Sellers Simmons. Survivors include his daughters Catherine R. Simmons and Joe Sells of Albany, GA., Sandy Simmons Dieckman and Dick of Sylvester, GA.; grandson Jeremy Simmons and Amanda of Fitzgerald, GA; great grandchildren Kylie West,Clay Simmons, Carmella Rathburn, and Isabella Simmons; Care Taker Susan Arnett. There will be a memorial service on Monday, February 8, 2016 at 6:00 PM at Hall and Hall Funeral Home in Albany, GA. The family will also receive friends one hour before the service on Tuesday at Cobb Funeral Chapel. Cobb Funeral Chapel and Hall and Hall Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
